Getting out on the social floor is a crucial component of developing your swing dancing. If you spend a couple of hours each week out dancing, you'll not only have fun, you'll learn things we don't have time to cover in class--like how to dance with other people.Thursdays at 8pm: LOAFERS
With very diverse music offerings from the local DJs, this dance is beginner-friendly for lindy hoppers and Charleston dancers. You may need to "know someone" to get into the shag club at which it's hosted (Loafers Beach Club), in which case you can mention my name. Located in Raleigh.
Every other Friday at 9pm: VINTAGE SWING DANCE
This night features the original swing and Charleston music of the 20's and 30's. Here you'll see faster swingouts, hot Charleston, and Balboa. Hosted at the Triangle Dance Studio in Durham. Look for announcements on Heckzapoppin.
Saturdays: TSDS
The Triangle Swing Dance Society often features live bands and always has a beginner East Coast lesson beforehand. Extremely beginner-friendly. Various locations.
Sundays: CAROLINA DANCE CLUB
Another beginner-friendly dance, the DJs here play more modern music, including neo-swing from the 90's. Halfway through, the music switches to West Coast swing. Can be very crowded. Located at the Elk's Lodge in Raleigh.
